Microsoft offers $200 credit for used iPads, hopes you’ll become a Surface convert

As reported on Engadget. By Mariella Moon Microsoft’s new recycle-for-reward initiative doesn’t target one of its own devices — instead, it focuses on another company’s popular gadget: Apple’s iPad. The US trade-in program offers at least $200 in exchange for a “gently used” iPad 2, 3 or 4. You can probably get more than $200 in other places, especially for the newer slates, and you can even get cash instead of the Microsoft Store gift cards Redmond’s giving out. However, outgoing…

As reported on TechCrunch. by DARRELL ETHERINGTON Apple’s supposed next-generation iPad case components are on display in a new high-definition video from Unbox Therapy, showing a design that is clearly inspired by the iPad mini. Modus III Is A Portable Workstation That Wants To Turn Your iPad Into A Desktop

As reported on TechCrunch. by NATASHA LOMAS To the untrained eye the evolution of technology can appear to be a rather futile oscillation. We had laptops. Then we threw away their keyboards and worked only on a screen. Then we decided touchscreen typing on tablets was annoying, so brought back a physical keyboard and added supports to hold the screen at that trusty old laptop screen angle that made so much sense… All of which probably…

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8- and 10.1-inch versions to launch worldwide early June

As reported on Engadget. By Jamie Rigg In addition to the Galaxy Tab 3 with a 7-inch display we’ve known about for a while, Samsung’s announced the slate will come in 8- and 10.1-inch varieties, too — something rumors and FCC filings have long suggested. The 8-inch model has a TFT display sporting a 1,280 x 800 (WXGA) resolution (189 ppi), a 5-megapixel rear camera and 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter. It’s got vaguely respectable internals: a 1.5GHz dual-core processor (no word on the manufacturer),…

Surface Pro driver enables Pen pressure sensitivity in Adobe Photoshop

As reported on Engadget. By Sharif Sakr After a long and awkward delay, there’s been some movement in the saga known as “Surface Pro’s Pen accessory won’t work with the one major application that could really benefit from it.” Microsoft’s Panos Panay tweeted yesterday that he had a beta driver from Wacom that had enabled his Pen’s pressure sensitivity in Adobe Photoshop. Around the same time, an updated driver (“Enhanced Tablet Driver 7.1.1-12”) appeared on Wacom’s site, which PocketNow reckons contains the necessary fix.…

The analyst expects annual revenue generated from…

Strategy Analytics: Microsoft’s share of tablet market quadrupled after Windows 8

As reported on Engadget. By Sharif Sakr Say what you like about Windows 8, but before it arrived Microsoft’s presence in the tablet sphere was as small as it was stagnant. By the reckoning of number-crunchers at Strategy Analytics, just 400,000 Windows-running slates were shipped globally in Q3 of last year — a figure that was largely unchanged from the year before and which represented just 1.6 percent of the global tablet market. Six months later, now that…
