As reported on The Verge. By Sean Hollister Over the course of the last year, the balance of power at Microsoft has drastically changed. Now, Businessweek has chronicled the Game of Thrones-like power struggle which shoved aside the regime of Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates to make way for a new leader. While much of the story has been told before in whispers and rumors, the publication’s sources paint a vivid picture of internal strife and corporate backstabbings at the firm, starting with a rift between Gates…

Microsoft rebrands Office Web Apps as Office Online because it’s an online version of Office

As reported on Engadget. BY JAMIE RIGG Use Office Web Apps much? Us neither, which is probably why Microsoft’s answer to Google Docs felt it needed a makeover. Following SkyDrive’s recent rebrand to OneDrive, Office Web Apps has received similar treatment, and now asks you to call it Office Online. The next Windows 8.1 update might skip the Start screen by default

As reported on Engadget. BY TIMOTHY J. SEPPALA Microsoft already gave Windows 8 users the option to boot their machines directly to the desktop, but a future update could make the classic interface standard. According to known leaker WZor, the latest Windows 8.1 test build skips over Microsoft’s tiled interface by default.
