This is what happens when a drone interrupts your Christmas date

As reported on Engadget. by Aaron Souppouris You’re on a date at TGI Friday’s, casually sipping your discount cocktail, trying to ignore the disappointed look on your partner’s face as they attempt to cut into their overcooked steak. As if this situation wasn’t awkward enough, the smooth sounds of the Billboard 100 playlist are interrupted by a high-pitched whining. A lone quadrocopter hovers above, dangling a collection of stale mistletoe leaves. Looking to make the…

As reported on Engadget. BY RICHARD LAI We’ve seen the teasers and we’ve seen the leaks, so it’s about time to see the real thing. Oppo has finally unveiled the Find 7 in Beijing just now, and as promised, this Android 4.3 device really can take 50-megapixel photos! But as with many things in life, there’s a catch here: the sensor is actually a 13-megapixel Sony IMX214 CMOS, so it’s a software trick. Still, the results we saw earlier were surprisingly good,…

Dual-lens smartphone cameras are coming, and this is why we want one

As reported on Engadget. BY SHARIF SAKR One camera. Two separate lenses. That’s the conundrum raised by leaked images of HTC’s forthcoming M8 smartphone, which is rumored to bring some interesting new imaging features that go far beyond mere 3D. But what could those features be? For an answer, we turned to a startup called Corephotonics, which is currently pitching precisely such a dual-lens concept to smartphone makers. A closer look at the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera

As reported on Engadget. BY STEVE DENT Okay, that’s it. You’ve had enough of highly compressed video codecs that crap out on detailed shots and make decent color grading a pipe dream. Now that Blackmagic’s $995 Pocket Cinema Camera (BMPCC) is RAW-ready, isn’t it time to make the jump to higher bitrate video? Perhaps. The company’s latest pint-sized weapon does produce magnificent images using a downsized version of its first Cinema Camera sensor, yes. But it’s not quite as…

The peripheral isn’t just for small devices, either; it includes six adjustable arms that accommodate larger hardware, like the Xperia Tablet Z and VAIO Tap 11. Sony ships…
